Hometown: Monywa, Sagaing
Zarni Ye Myint was exposed to art at a young age as his grandfather was a painter. His father was very supportive of his artistic talent and always took him to Mandalay and Yangon for art competitions. The first medium he learnt as an artist was water colour, under Lu Tin, Aung Maung and other artists of the Chindwinyaykyi water colour group. He moved from Monywa to Yangon in 1993 to study art. At the Yangon State School of Fine Arts, he studied under Soe Tint, Than Kywe, Win Tint, and Thet Oo. He learnt design from Kyaw Kyaw Tin.
Water colour on paper is his favourite medium although he also creates art with other mediums.
An artist with great versatility, Zarni Ye Myint has been working with the Ministry of Information’s MRTV since 1999 an indoor permanent studio artist for setting designs. He also did illustrations and comics for Manizota and Seinthamani religious magazines. Before studying at the State School of Fine Arts, he taught art at a few government schools as a guest teacher.
He lives in Yangon with his family. “I feel very fortunate to be able to live life creating art and make a living through art,” says Zarni Ye Myint. Apart from painting, he enjoys reading and listening to music.
He has held four solo exhibitions and participated in more than 30 group exhibitions locally and internationally.
