Yan Naing Oo

Born: 1973
Hometown: Yangon

Yan Naing Oo studied under U Win Tint, U Than Kywe, Thit Lwin Soe at theYangon State School of Fine Art in 1994-1995. He financed his studies by selling small pieces of commissioned art to galleries in Bogyoke market. Upon graduation, he was a full time illustrator for many years for magazines such as Face, Myawaddy, and Ngwetaryee, and novels. He still paints about 20 watercolour pieces per month for three magazines.

He likes to explore different subject matters and different mediums. “I like to paint anything that comes into mind and sometimes I paint from memories. At times I just gaze at one thing that attracts my attention and I paint in my mind. When I’m inspired, I have to create art either physically or in my mind.” said Yan Naing Oo. “Showing my work is not as important as creating art for my own happiness”.

Red is one of his favourite colours. His landscape paintings can rarely be seen without red.

Apart from illustrations and painting, he likes playing cane ball, listening to music and reading poetry.
