Hometown: Nang Kham, Northern Shan State
U Maung Maung developed an interest in the arts from a young age. He learnt the basics of painting from his father U Toh Bi Ha. He joined the army in 1974, and studied art from books and articles when he was free. In 1984, he relocated to Yangon and had the opportunity to further study art.
He started illustrating short stories under the pen name “Moe Satt” for army issued monthly journals. In 1996/1997, he started publishing his own art and drawing books under the pen name “Thoe Htain”. He also published cartoons under the pen name “Internet/Toe Nia” in the Moe Thout Pan graphic novels by Mya Wa De Publisher.
From 2004 – 2010, U Maung Maung worked for a Korean art company and he started painting from 2010. He held his first solo art show at OK Gallery from 31 Dec 2017 to 2 Jan 2018.
