The interplay of light and darkness feature dominantly in S Moe Z’s paintings. For him, the darkness in his paintings represent the oppression of his people while the ray of light offers hope for the nation. He usually paints monks and nuns but recently started to paint the Pa-Oh people from the Shan State as he was drawn to their dark robes and bright headgear. He is a graduate of the State School of Fine Art in Yangon and has exhibited extensively overseas and in Myanmar.
