A self-taught artist, Nilar Tun began her artistic career in 2007 as a gemstone artist in Yangon. She drew the base images of Myanmar landscapes and placed gemstones on them to create beautiful Myanmar scenes. She became well acquainted with the art scene in Yangon through visits to galleries and exhibitions. Her interactions with artists, as well as her frustration with the limitations of gemstone art, inspired her to start painting with acrylic on canvas.
Nilar Tun found freedom in the use of acrylic as a medium compared to gemstones. Her favourite subject matters are nature, forests and trees, as she loves to be in nature and has vivid memories of the landscape in her hometown of Pathein. With acrylic, she is free to work with the composition, perspective and colours in her paintings. For her, birght colours and scenes of nature convey a sense of happiness and delight.
She has participated in about 20 group shows and hopes to hold a solo exhibition in the near future.
