Lapyae studied at the State School of Fine Art in Yangon. A keen learner, he understudied his father Ngwe Aung and brother Ngwe Phyoe, both established artists, as well as Win Tin, Kyaw Thu Rain and Tin Maung Oo. He developed his signature style, using vibrant colours and elements of cubism in his interpretation of fresh markets and key landmarks in Myanmar. He has participated in over 15 group shows in Myanmar. He won a special prize at the Tun Foundation’s Best Painting of the Year Award in 2015.
