Kaung Kyaw Khine moved from his hometown of Sittwe to Yangon in 2003 to attend the Yangon State School of Fine Arts. He devoted himself to the arts after graduation. Under the influence of his father who is an artist, dancer and musician, Kaung Kyaw Khine is very drawn to the Rakhine drum, an instrument that plays a very important role in the Rakhine culture. His earlier works predominantly featured the Rakhine drummers. In his latest series “At the Tea Shop”, he explores the theme of the tea shops within the cultural context of Myanmar, especially how they serve as an escape from the troubles of everyday life. His work has been shown in many exhibitions locally and in Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, US and Paris.
