Hometown: Paungde, Bago Division
Hla Htay’s father was a famous commercial artist in their hometown of Paungde. He grew up learning art by assisting his father. Hla Htay was in love with painting and sculptures and knew he wanted to be an artist from a young age. Convinced that he would be able to follow his father’s footsteps and make a living out of creating art, he stopped school when he was in the eighth grade.
Hla Htay has a very cheerful personality that shows in his paintings through his use of bright colours and often whimsical style.
