Hometown: Myitkyina, Kachin State
Brang Li moved to Yangon when he was 23 to study at the University of Culture. His Kachin heritage is a central theme of his work. His first works drew inspiration from the designs of the traditional handwoven Kachin fabric. His “No More Life” series in 2016 is a tribute to those affected by the civil conflicts in Myanmar, the world’s longest running civil war. He uses soot as a medium for his artwork to express the suffering of victims facing the fumes and flames of the civil war. He has shown his work internationally in Hong Kong, Singapore and at the Miami Art Basel.
