Born: 1978
Hometown: Shwe Daung, Bago Division.
Aung Ko graduated from the National University of Art and Culture in 2001, majoring in paintings. He has exhibited widely in group shows in Myanmar and abroad, and has held two solo exhibitions. He is a full-time artist.
In his “Old is Gold” series, Aung Ko reminisces about his childhood spent at pagodas with his grandparents in the middle part of Myanmar. Those were precious moments as his grandparents passed down knowledge about his culture and religion. Over the years, the pagodas and their stairways became dilapidated from the lack of maintenance but they continue to hold a very special place in his heart.
